THIS is the horrific moment life-savers were forced to leap into action in Spain after two women were trapped underneath a car in swirling flood waters as another region was hit by torrential rain. The dramatic intervention of bystanders and firefighters comes after cars and their occupants were carried away by raging floods in Mallorca that have left at least 12 people confirmed dead. The incident took place in Tarragona in the eastern Spanish region of Cataluña. According to local reports, a 21-year-old woman was crossing the street when a motorbike that was being carried by the flood water hit her and trapped her underneath a parked car. A 45-year-old woman who rushed to help her was toppled by the strong currents and found herself trapped under the same car. Bystanders tried to help them as a fire engine that was passing in the opposite direction stopped to help. Firefighters also went to their aid and, with combined efforts, pulled the trapped women from beneath the car. The two women were rushed to hospital. The 21-year-old is said to be in a critical condition. The other woman is described as ‘stable’.
