SPAIN’S royal family has released a picture of its annual Christmas card. The festive photograph shows King Felipe and Queen Letizia posing with their daughters Princess Leonor and Princess Sofia during a trip to Asturias. The trip was Princess Leonor’s first official visit as heir to the throne, leaving royal commentators to speculate the choice of photograph is significant step in establishing the girl as Spain’s next monarch Although still only 13, Princess Leonor has already begun taking on official royal engagements, making her first public in October at an event to celebrate the fortieth anniversary of Spain’s constitution. In January, her father also presented her with ‘The Order of the Golden Fleece,’ an honour awarded to Roman Catholic nobles. Inside the card, the family wished receivers a happy Christmas and New Year, with signatures from King Felipe, Queen Letizia, Princess Leonor, and Princess Sofia. Credit: Casa de SM el Real
