SPAIN’S Ministry of Health has issued a warning over tinned sardines bought from Dia supermarkets.

The alert warns anyone with cans of the supermarket’s own brand of sardines in olive oil should not consume them but, instead, return them to shop where they were purchased.

Dia alerted the Ministry of Health to the potential issue after their own internal laboratory tests offered up, “incorrect,” results.

The company said the product had been sold in Spain and Portugal in their Dia, Dia Plaza, and Cash shops.

The item is no longer for sale in stores, however officials warn consumers may still have cans in their cupboards.

The affected 120g tins bear the lot number: L2696L and carry a best before date of July 2023.
