TWO women have been seriously injured after being knifed in broad daylight on a street in Greater Manchester, England.
As reported by the police, the incident occurred on Atherton Road in Hindley, near Wigan, just before lunchtime on Saturday, December 14.
Police have enforced a lockdown in the surrounding area as they desperately try to determine the circumstances behind this horrific attack. Officers have closed a half-mile section of the area to traffic and have told residents to stay out of the area until advised otherwise.
Witnesses reported seeing several ambulances and two air ambulances landing at the scene, with the women subsequently rushed to hospital.
In response to the incident, a spokesman for the Greater Manchester Police said:
“Police are currently responding to reports of a double stabbing on Atherton Road, Hindley.
“Atherton Road is currently closed in both directions between the junctions of Leigh Road and Westleigh Lane. Please avoid the area where possible.
“We sent two air ambulances, two advanced paramedics, two rapid response vehicles and two ambulances. Two patients were taken to hospital by road ambulance.”
As Euro Weekly News understands, no arrests have so far been made and the police are not treating the incident as terror-related.
