AFTER Spanish police issued a country-wide warning about the dangers of driving over the long weekend, it has been revealed that a man has sadly died in a horrifying road accident in Tarragona, Spain.

As reported by the emergency services, a vehicle came off the road at KM217 on the AP-7 in Vedrell at approximately 9.40am this morning (January 5). It is believed that the driver lost control of their car and swerved off the road, striking a barrier, where the vehicle then landed on its side.

Ambulances had raced to the scene as the accident was called in, however despite the best efforts of paramedics the driver was pronounced dead on the scene. The car also carried a passenger who escaped death and was subsequently rushed to a nearby hospital where it is reported by medical personnel that they are in a stable condition.

As Euro Weekly News understands, specialised traffic officers from the police have now launched an investigation to determine exactly how the driver lost control of their vehicle.

The fatality has occurred at a period indicated by the police to see the highest amount of accidents on Spanish roads. From January 3 to 6 an estimated 4.1 million journeys will be made on the Spanish roads, with a warning being issued to drivers to apply the highest amount of caution when driving.
