ARMED: The hunter was in possession of illegal weapons
A bird hunter was arrested in Periana for being in possession of military grade weapons and illegal hunting gear. The Guardia Civil of Velez Malaga arrested the Periana resident who is accused of a serious crime against flora and fauna. Investigations began after officers were alerted to a person that could have been bird hunting using prohibited capture methods. The Guardia Civil conducted an inspection of the suspected farm, where they found three illegal weapons in an underground area. Hidden in a separate hut they found a bigger collection of weaponry, totalling 17 long and 3 short weapons. Military grade ammunition as well as 281 traps used for hunting birds were also seized by officers. The owner of the plot was also in possession of illegal hunting gear and a large number of Finches, which are classified as protected birds.
