Spain stabbing suspect under investigation for two violent deaths in Barcelona

CATALAN police are investigating whether a man arrested in Barcelona on Monday for robbery and for stabbing two people is connected to two violent deaths in the Ciutat Vella district of the city on the same day.

Firefighters discovered the body of a man inside a house at around 3pm after extinguishing a blaze at the property which completely burned through one room.

Around one hour later the Mossos d’Esquadra received an alert about the body of an elderly woman who had reportedly fallen down stairs into the lobby of a nearby block of flats.

Minutes after that Barcelona Guardia Urbana officers detained a 19-year old in plaza Sant Jaume for a mugging and for knifing two victims in the street, leaving one in a critical condition.

Barcelona Mayor Ada Colau posted on Twitter that the seriously injured victim is a City Hall employee.
