This year, Costa del Sol’s Fuengirola will celebrate International Women’s Day with a host of activities taking place throughout the month, starting on 6th March and finishing on 31st March. Events include speeches, concerts, exhibitions and workshops, to encourage equality between men and women, according to Fuengirola’s Councillor for Equality Rocío Rodríguez.

“The local department has worked all year to create several events, most of which are free, to help raise awareness about gender equality, promote women’s empowerment, close the gender wage gap, and much more,” she adds.

The month-long celebrations will kick off with a manifesto speech on equal rights on the 6th March at Fuengirola’s Town Hall at 11am. This is followed by an evening event to celebrate the town’s renowned local women at the Palazio de la Paz, at 7pm. On Saturday 7th March, artist and singer Patricia Kraus will hold a concert at the same venue at 8pm. Tickets can be reserved by emailing cultura@fuengirola.org.

The annual ‘March With Us’ walk will take place the following day on International Women’s Day, on Sunday 8th March. The 5km walk starts at 10am from Plaza Teresa Zabell to Castillo Sohail (the castle). The walk is open to anyone wishing to take part. Simply sign up at either at the equality area at the ‘Colores’ building in Los Boliches, or at the Elola Sports Centre if you would like to participate. The town hall will also host a free workshop entitled ‘Walking in Equality’, with the President of Women in Equality, Mari Luz Puentes, on the same day.

Finally, from 12th– 31st March, the Colores building of Los Boliches, will host an exhibition to celebrate equality by artists Pilar Correa and Lol Malone. The exhibition is open to the public during the weekdays, Monday to Friday, between 10am-2pm and 5pm-8pm.
