At least 999 people are now infected with the Coronavirus (COVID-19) in Spain, with the latest death toll increasing to 25 today, according to the country’s Ministry of Health.
The two focal areas of concentration are Madrid and the Basque country, for which extra precautionary measures are now being considered, according to Fernando Simón, Director of the Centre for Coordination of Health Alerts and Emergencies of the Ministry of Health in Spain. The number of infected and death toll have actually doubled in just a day for the country’s capital, confirm Madrid’s health authorities.
Elsewhere in Europe, Italy has taken strict measures to isolate 16 million of its population across the Northern parts of Italy, which has registered 366 deaths to date, and more than 7,357 infected with COVID-19.
Globally, there are now reported to be more than 110,000 infected, with 3,800 dying from the virus so far. Approximately 80% of those victims pertain to China, the country with the largest number of casualties to date.
