THE aging population of Lugo in Galicia causes concern for the future of the town.

The Lugo Employers’ Confederation (CEL) has raised concerns that the population is aging and that the government need to do more to help the town. The town is home to less than 100,000 residents and the average age is nearly 50 years-old.

Jaime López general secretary of the CEL states that there is the need for “a strategic plan with actions in the province of Lugo, in order to encourage the improvement of infrastructures and generate the possibility of sustainable economic and social development that creates opportunities for people in its territory.”

Nearly 200 million has been set aside for the Monforte-Lugo railway line but other developments are needed.
