Two years after his overwhelming Glastonbury set experience, Lewis Capaldi returned to the Pyramid Stage on June 27, 2025, and delivered one of the most emotional moments in the festival’s history.

Back in 2023, he could barely finish his song. This time around, he sang beautifully, thousands sang along with him, cried, and welcomed him back with open arms.

“I’m back, baby”: Lewis Capaldi’s second chance on Glastonbury stage

Capaldi’s not-so-secret set was listed on the official schedule as “To Be Announced,” but fans had already pieced it together from poster clues in Glasgow and near Worthy Farm. When he finally stepped out to perform just before Alanis Morissette, the roar from the crowd said it all.

“Two years ago I wasn’t sure if I’d ever do this again, but I’m back, baby!” he declared, choking back tears.

Kicking off with Before You Go, Capaldi barely had to sing, as the crowd took over. Then came others including Bruises, Forget Me, and his defining track Someone You Loved. But it was Survive, his new single about mental illness and self-doubt, that stole the show.

“I swear to God I’ll survive, if it kills me to,” he sang. That line alone felt like a statement.

From Capaldi’s breakdown to breakthrough

Capaldi’s 2023 Glastonbury appearance left fans heartbroken. Mid-set, visibly struggling with Tourette’s tics and losing his voice, he told the crowd: “I’m going to be honest, everybody, but I’m starting to lose my voice up here… I just need you all to sing with me as loud as you can, if that’s okay?” They did, but he left the stage apologising and announced a break “for the foreseeable future.”

Behind the humour and fame, Capaldi’s battle with anxiety and Tourette’s – detailed in his Netflix documentary How I’m Feeling Now – had taken a heavy toll.

“I used to be able to enjoy every second of shows like this,” he admitted in a 2023 statement. “But the truth is I’m still learning to adjust to the impact of my Tourette’s… I need to spend much more time getting my mental and physical health in order.”

What followed was public silence, until this spring, when he began teasing a return.

“Worst kept f*****g secret ever”

His Glastonbury comeback was kept under wraps in theory, but the buzz had already built. “This was like the worst kept f*****g secret ever,” he joked on stage.

On Instagram after his set, he posted: “Glastonbury it’s so incredible to be back, thank you so much for having me x.” Celebs flooded the comments.

The message is clear: Lewis Capaldi is loved, not just for his voice, but for his honesty.
