Marbella beach lifeguard and surveillance service managed a total of 2,316 incidents in the first fortnight of July, showing the difference of having a high volume of beachgoers during peak season and the effectiveness of the city’s safety measures.

Of these incidents, 1,183 were related to lifesaving operations. Preventive actions were the most common, with lifeguards issuing warnings about the presence of jellyfish, sea conditions, and unauthorised navigation in restricted areas. Incidents occurring during yellow-flag warnings were the most frequent, followed by red flag alerts and jellyfish sightings. The service also carried out 16 water rescues, 10 of which they classified as minor and six as moderate, with no severe cases reported as of yet.

Marbella beaches’ 619 jellyfish incidents

619 medical-related interventions were recorded, with jellyfish stings accounting for around 75 per cent of cases. Other necessary treatments included care for cuts, burns, anxiety attacks, and minor ailments. Fifteen incidents required an ambulance to be called, and five individuals were taken to hospital.

Added to that, there were 419 violations of municipal bylaws reported, with nearly half (200 cases) involving dogs on beaches outside permitted hours. Fines were dealt out for littering, swimming in boating lanes, fishing outside designated times, and banned activities such as paragliding and beach camping.

The lifeguard service also recorded 95 acts involving rescue boats, many of which focused on support and supervision in high-risk areas. The Beach Department of the council commended the coordinated efforts of the teams and urged the public to follow lifeguard instructions, respect flag signals, and comply with regulations for the safe and responsible use of Marbella’s coastline.
