JET2, a low-cost airline based in Leeds, England, is extending its flight services at the Almeria Airport in 2026. According to the airline, the main routes – Manchester and Birmingham – will begin a month earlier than usual, from Saturday, April 4, 2026 and will be in service until Sunday, November 1 of the same year. The news was confirmed by Ricard Querol, General Manager of Airports and Tourism Organisations for the company.
Number of available seats, frequency of flights spike in 2026
The extension will directly contribute to a considerable increase in the number of seats offered for the airline’s routes: the number will spike from 38,000 seats to an available 42,000 in 2026, representing an increase of 10.5 per cent. According to Querol, April will see about 1,500 seats on sale, whereas peak season’s numbers will reach 6,500 or 7,000 seats available.
In addition, the frequency of the flights will also increase, going from one flight a week to two.
Jet2, offering holiday packages and connecting Almeria to several places in the UK
The new change shows a growing pattern of Jet2’s commitment to Almeria. A higher frequency of flights means that the holidaymakers can now stay in Almeria for more than 7 or 14 days, as were the previous only other options available to Jet2 passengers. In addition to this, most of the passengers flying through Jet2 – around 60 per cent, according to Querol – also opt for a holiday tour package with the airline. This translated to some 21,000 British tourists coming into Almeria for a holiday in 2025.
The company works with 24 total hotels, located in Roquetas de Mar, Mojacar, and El Toyo. This year, 65 per cent of those tourists were families: 58 per cent stayed in Roquetas de Mar, 30 per cent in Mojacar, and the remaining 12 per cent in El Toyo.
Jet2 connects Almeria with four major UK airports: Manchester, with three weekly flights; Birmingham, with three weekly flights; Bristol, with one weekly flight; and Leeds, with two weekly flights. Though Jet2 currently holds 30 per cent of the market share, with similar figures to those of Ryanair (32 per cent) and EasyJet (37 per cent), Querol highlights that Jet2’s service covers a much larger part of the United Kingdom, and plays a major role in putting the Costa de Almeria on the map for UK holidaymakers interested in taking a trip to Spain.
Jet2 looks ahead to 2027 – a brand new route for Almeria
Not only this, the company is also looking ahead to their Almeria routes for 2027. A new route to the shining Costa will be added to London Stansted Airport, with holiday packages already on sale until October 31, 2027. From 2027, the Almeria Airport will have two different airlines offering routes to Stansted: Ryanair and Jet2.
The addition of the new route may help to balance out a recent disappointment for the airline, which was forced to cancel a route they had planned from Almeria to East Midlands, to launch in 2026. The route would have connected Almeria to nearby cities Derby, Leicester, Lincoln, and Nottingham, but was ultimately cancelled due to a needed reorganisation of aircraft between the East Midlands Airport and London Gatwick. One aircraft needed to be moved from the East Midlands Airport to the London Gatwick Airport, forcing the cancellation of the planned route.
However, Querol stated that the company is not ruling out continuing with the route in the future.
