There must be little surprised that Malaga has claimed the top spot as Spain’s happiest city, due to its exceptional quality of life according to the latest Spain Happy Index 2026 from Sonneil Homes. Malagueños enjoy abundant sunshine, reliable services, and coastal style that raise everyday wellbeing and feeling safe.

Published to coincide with International Day of Happiness on 20 March, this annual study takes a look at over 8,000 areas across Spain. Factors include amount of sunny days, rainfall levels, average temperatures, wind conditions, proximity to airports, healthcare access, educational facilities, and natural surroundings. Naturally, Andalucia dominates the leaderboard, highlighting the region’s appeal for relaxed living.

Malaga leads happy chart with near-perfect score

Sonneil Homes praises this combination for reinforcing superior daily living standards.

Almeria follows closely with 90.88 points, thanks to 310 sunny days and remarkably low rainfall, just 27 days. Stable weather, sea proximity, and essential services landed it the number two position.
