Excitement fills the air along Spain’s Costa del Sol as the La Cala Lions Annual Waiters’ Race makes a triumphant return to La Cala de Mijas. Local hospitality stars and the best of the best waiting staff from around La Cala will balance trays loaded with a glass of water and a croissant through bustling streets, showing off their skills and speed without a single drop spilt. Organised by the La Cala de Mijas Lions Club, this charity fundraiser brings together fun with community spirit for its second edition.
Date and location details for the La Cala Waiters Race
Competitors line up at Torreon Square from 3pm on Saturday, March 28, for the main event, racing through the iconic streets while keeping everything without a wobble. Rules remain simple yet strict – no running allowed and zero spills permitted – turning everyday service into an entertaining test of balance and endurance under pressure. Crowds cheer as all our favourite waiters and waitresses from local bars and restaurants compete in this unique Costa del Sol tradition.
Family fun begins early with artisan market
Activities kick off from 11am around the iconic Torreón with a vibrant and lively artisan market and dedicated kids’ zone packed with games and entertainment. Families enjoy the festive atmosphere before the main race kicks off, creating a full day of enjoyment for all ages. Visitors can browse stalls for some of those unique little wonders while children participate in hands-on attractions, adding extra layers of appeal to the La Cala de Mijas celebration. While you’re there, get yourself checked out at the diabetics’ stand. Can’t do any harm!
Prizes and medals inspire top talent
Winners receive prestigious prizes together with Best Waiters’ medals, building on last year’s success where Brad Carolan from Bridges Bar claimed first place ahead of brothers Dani and José from Cortijillo. Participants gain sponsorship from their establishments to support the Lions Club’s charitable work across the region. Steady hands and quick thinking secure glory while raising vital funds for all the good causes La Cala Lions work hard all year for.
How to get involved or find more information
Restaurants and bars can “volunteer” their steadiest staff and get entry forms or sponsorship details at the La Cala Lions Shop on Calle Torremolinos 12 ahead of the big day. Spectators simply turn up to enjoy free viewing and post-race festivities that highlight the area’s warm hospitality. This now-annual regular is continuing to grow, drawing visitors eager to experience the La Cala Lions Annual Waiters’ Race in person. Don’t get splashed!
