A new programme of free digital skills courses has been launched across the Vega Baja region in southern Alicante, offering residents the opportunity to improve their employability through practical and accessible training.
The initiative is being delivered by Convega, the regional development consortium, in collaboration with Labora, the Valencian Employment and Training Service. It aims to equip participants with essential digital competencies that are increasingly required across a wide range of sectors.
Courses will cover areas such as basic computing, office software, social media management and website creation, providing participants with skills that can be applied directly in the workplace. The programme is primarily aimed at unemployed individuals, although it is also open to those seeking to update or expand their professional skill set.
Training sessions will be held across multiple municipalities in Vega Baja, ensuring broad access throughout Costa Blanca South. Locations include towns such as Rojales, Benijofar and other participating areas, allowing residents from across the region to benefit without the need for extensive travel.
In addition to technical training, the programme includes personalised support for participants. This may involve career guidance, tailored learning pathways and assistance in identifying employment opportunities. In some cases, financial support for transport or attendance may also be available, helping to remove barriers to participation.
The initiative forms part of wider efforts to promote employment and digital inclusion at both regional and European levels. Funding is partly supported through programmes aimed at strengthening workforce skills and supporting economic development in local communities.
Organisers have highlighted the growing importance of digital literacy in today’s labour market, where even entry-level roles often require familiarity with basic technologies. By offering free and structured training, the programme aims to improve job prospects for participants while also supporting local businesses in accessing a more skilled workforce.
The courses are expected to run over the coming months, with registration open through Convega’s official channels. Interested residents are encouraged to apply early, as places may be limited depending on demand.
Overall, the initiative represents a practical step towards enhancing digital skills across Vega Baja and supporting long-term employment opportunities in the region.
