Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport is preparing for a significant Easter travel rush, with thousands of passengers expected to pass through during one of the first major peak periods of the year.
Airlines have scheduled more than 4,200 flights between March 27 and April 6, marking an increase of around 6% compared to the same period last year. The figures underline the airport’s growing importance as a key gateway to the Costa Blanca, particularly during holiday seasons when travel demand rises sharply.
Strong demand expected throughout Easter period
Daily traffic is set to remain consistently high, with around 350 flights operating each day, while the busiest days could see more than 430 flights scheduled. The increase reflects strong demand from both international visitors and residents travelling during the Easter break.
The airport serves millions of passengers annually and is one of the busiest transport hubs in the Valencian Community. Its role becomes especially evident during seasonal peaks such as Easter, when tourism and family travel combine to create sustained pressure on flight schedules.
Airlines expand ahead of summer season
Airlines have already signalled further growth in the months ahead, with expanded routes and increased seat capacity planned for the summer season. Low-cost carriers continue to play a major role in driving passenger numbers, particularly on routes connecting Alicante with the United Kingdom, Germany and other European destinations. The Easter period is often seen as a key indicator of how the summer season may develop, with early figures closely monitored by tourism and aviation sectors.
Positive outlook for Costa Blanca tourism
The expected surge in flights is being viewed as a positive sign for the region’s tourism industry, which relies heavily on international arrivals. Hotels, restaurants and local businesses typically benefit from increased visitor numbers during this period. With strong flight schedules already in place and demand continuing to grow, the Easter rush is set to mark a solid start to the 2026 tourism season on the Costa Blanca.
As the airport prepares for the influx of travellers, authorities and operators will be focused on maintaining smooth operations and minimising delays during one of the busiest travel periods of the year.
