Axarquia’s coastline is preparing to host a special sporting event designed to encourage more women to take up golf. APTA (the Association for the Promotion of Tourism in the Axarquia) has joined forces with the prestigious Baviera Golf Club to launch a “Golf Baptism” initiative.

Scheduled for Friday, April 17, at 10am, this free session hopes to dismantle the stereotype of golf as a male-dominated pursuit while highlighting the physical and social benefits of the game.

Professional coaching in a Mediterranean setting

Expert instructors José Cadenas and Samuel Wynne will lead the two-hour introductory workshop. Participants can expect a comprehensive first contact with the sport, broken down into three accessible segments. Beginners will start by learning the basic mechanics of the “long game” swing before moving to the putting green to master the nuances of finishing a hole. Finally, the professionals will provide a live demonstration on the course, showing exactly how a full hole is played in a real-match scenario.

Healthy lifestyle and social connection

Elisa Páez, manager of APTA, has explained that this pilot activity focuses on well-being and nature. Highlighting that golf can be enjoyed 365 days a year in the local climate, she said that the association is proud to sponsor a day that combines technique with outdoor leisure. Samuel Wynne added that other than the physical movement, the event serves as an enriching social experience, allowing local and expat women to connect in a relaxed environment.

Reserve your session at Caleta de Velez

Baviera Golf, located in Caleta de Velez and designed by the legendary José María Cañizares, provides the perfect backdrop with its wide fairways and Mediterranean views. All necessary equipment is included for the session, meaning attendees only need to bring enthusiasm. Places are strictly limited and expected to fill quickly. Interested residents should register via the QR code found on the official APTA and Baviera Golf social media platforms to claim their free spot.
