A normal workday turned into an emergency situation in San Vicente del Raspeig after a factory worker fell into a pit while carrying out his duties, prompting a rapid rescue operation by local firefighters. The incident took place on Monday morning at a cardboard packaging factory located in the Canastell industrial estate, where emergency services were called after the worker fell into a pit approximately one metre deep.
Thanks to the swift response of the Provincial Fire Consortium of Alicante (CPBA), the situation was quickly brought under control, with the injured worker safely rescued and placed in the care of medical teams.
Rescue operation carried out by firefighters
Fire crews from the San Vicente station carried out a controlled extraction of the worker, who had fallen into the confined space while working inside the facility. According to official information shared by the fire service, the manoeuvre was completed safely, allowing paramedics to access and treat the injured man. The operation required coordination between firefighters and emergency medical services, ensuring that the worker could be removed without worsening his condition.
Injured worker taken to hospital
Once rescued, the worker was attended to by SAMU paramedics at the scene before being transferred to hospital. Initial reports indicate that he was suffering from back pain following the fall. While the injuries were not described as life-threatening, the incident highlights the potential risks associated with industrial environments, even in relatively low-height falls.
Emergency response within minutes
The alert was received at approximately 10.23am, with the operation concluded less than 30 minutes later, demonstrating the efficiency of the emergency response teams. Several units were deployed, including a command unit, a heavy urban pump, a rescue vehicle, and a team consisting of a sergeant, a corporal and multiple firefighters.
Workplace safety under the spotlight
Although the pit was only around one metre deep, the incident serves as a reminder that even seemingly minor falls can result in injury, particularly in industrial settings where surfaces, equipment and confined spaces increase risk.
Authorities have not released further details regarding the circumstances of the fall, and it remains unclear whether additional safety measures will be reviewed following the incident. The worker is now in the care of medical professionals, with firefighters and emergency teams praised for their quick and effective intervention.
