TV viewers in Spain got a shock when they witnessed an unexpected drama develop live on regional television on Easter Thursday, just as many were planning to get in their cars and head off for the Easter break.
A multi-car collision suddenly took place on Spain’s A-5 motorway near Talavera de la Reina, with families more than likely leaving the Madrid area, passing through the Toledo Province and heading in the direction of Andalucia. Viewers saw the incident captured in real time during a routine traffic report.
Journalist Raquel Miguel stood reporting traffic conditions for Castilla-La Mancha Media’s 2pm news bulletin. Moments before 2.30pm, at kilometre marker 117 on the A-5 heading towards Badajoz, a loud skid interrupted her live segment. Several cars then braked sharply in view of the lens. Camera operator David Martín filmed a passenger car slamming into vehicles already tangled from an incident that had occurred a second before. Three cars ended up involved on the carriageway, with a white vehicle stationary on the hard shoulder.
Distractions and real-time narration in chaos
Miguel described events unfolding directly in front of the crew. She confirmed multiple vehicles had collided while emergency services rushed to the scene. Causes remained unclear at that stage, though distraction featured among possible explanations. Professional composure continued as the team continued broadcasting without pause despite the surprise element.

Dramatic moment caught live on camera
Quick resolution with no injuries
Fortunately, none of the drivers sustained any serious injuries. All occupants exited their vehicles unaided and placed warning triangles to make the area safe. Traffic experienced only brief disruption before authorities cleared the road. Ironically, the incident probably went some to saving lives as it was a very real and very stark reminder for hundreds of thousands about to hit the road about the danger of distractions, and maintaining distances on long drives.
This striking footage shows the value of vigilant road safety. Spain is a big country with long roads on which the slightest mistake or hurry can lead to potentially horrifying consequences.
