When your mind is ready, but your body is not

Have you ever noticed this?
You wake up… and your mind is already on.
Thinking about the day. What needs to be done. Where you need to go. Who you need to speak to.
But your body?
It’s not there yet.
It feels slower. Heavier. Sometimes stiff. Sometimes just low on energy before the day has even started.
And without thinking, you already start solving it.
Coffee.
Rush.
Push through.
And then the day begins.
But here’s the part most people don’t notice.
Your mind doesn’t stop.
It moves from one task to the next.
“I need to do this… then that… don’t forget that… later I’ll go there…”
You’re ticking boxes all day long.
And even when you sit down, your mind is still moving.
This is one of the biggest reasons people feel tired today.
Not just physically but mentally exhausted.
And I see this a lot, especially with people over 40.
Women going through pre-menopause often tell me the same thing:
“My mind is active, but my energy is low.”
Sleep feels lighter. Recovery takes longer. The body feels out of sync.
Men experience it differently, but just as clearly.
They need something to “start the engine.” Without coffee, the day doesn’t really begin.
And most people accept it.
“This is just getting older.”
But what if it’s not just age?
What if it’s the way you live your day and what you fuel it with?
Because here’s something important that often gets overlooked:
If your body doesn’t get the right food and your day has no structure, your energy will always stay just out of reach.
You might feel small boosts, coffee, sugar, quick fixes but they don’t last. The body keeps searching for balance, but never really finds it.
And that creates that constant feeling of being slightly off.
When I started paying attention to life here in the Mediterranean, I noticed something different.
People don’t jump into the day.
They ease into it.
Mornings start slower. Light first. Fresh air. A short walk. A coffee outside, not rushed, but enjoyed.
The body gets time to wake up, instead of being forced into action.
Meals are simple, regular and based on real ingredients. Nothing extreme. Nothing complicated. Just food that supports the body instead of confusing it.
And during the day, something else stands out.
People are not constantly in “task mode.”
Yes, things get done. But not with the same mental pressure of ticking boxes all day long.
There is space between things.
Moments of pause.
Short walks.
Conversations.
Breathing space.
And that changes everything.
Because your body doesn’t just need movement.
It needs rhythm.
When your day has rhythm and your body gets the right fuel, energy builds naturally instead of being forced.
Your mind becomes calmer.
Your body starts to follow again.
And that constant feeling of being “on” begins to fade.
Especially for women in pre-menopause, these small changes can make a big difference.
Not extreme diets.
Not harder workouts.
But simple daily habits that support your body.
What you can start doing today
You don’t need to change everything.
Start with this:
- Give your body a real start
Before coffee, step outside. Get daylight. Even 5–10 minutes helps your body wake up naturally. - Move gently in the morning
A short walk or light movement is enough. You’re not training, you’re waking your system up. - Don’t live your day only in your head
Break the constant “next task” cycle. Pause between things. Reset. - Eat to support your energy
Simple, fresh meals at regular times help stabilise your energy and avoid crashes. - Create small moments of calm
Even 10 minutes outside, without your phone, can reset your system.
This is what the Mediterranean lifestyle does so well.
It doesn’t push the body.
It supports it.
And when your body starts to feel supported again…
Mornings become easier.
Energy becomes more stable.
Your mind becomes quieter.
And slowly, your body starts catching up with your mind again.
Mediterranean tip of the week
Start your day outside and eat simply throughout the day. Light, movement and real food are the foundation of stable energy.
