Those living across southern Spain will now be able to get easier and more frequent trips to the capital thanks to Renfe’s latest upgrade on the high-speed rail route.
More seats and services for summer travellers
Renfe has just added eight extra AVE trains per week starting this Friday, July 17. Weekly services will increase from 166 to 174, while the total amount of seats will jump by 5.8 per cent to 61,176. People living in Malaga and nearby areas are going to benefit directly with greater flexibility for weekend getaways, business visits or family journeys up north.
Extra departures will mostly focus on the busiest days of the week. Friday evenings see a new Madrid departure at 9.20pm, arriving into Malaga at ten past midnight. Monday to Friday plus Sundays bring an additional Malaga train leaving at 5.52pm and reaching Madrid at twenty past eight in the evening. Sundays also feature another Malaga service at 8pm, arriving in Madrid at just before 11pm. Bookings for all these options have opened already through Renfe’s usual channels.
Better connections after track repairs dragged on
As well, train travellers from southern Spain can, at last, enjoy smoother journeys now that full double-track running returns through Alora. Heavy February rains caused serious damage there, yet Adif completed complex repairs despite tricky terrain and ongoing wet weather. One track reopened at the end of April, and from July 17, both tracks will operate again with new electrification, safety systems and drainage work finished.
The infrastructure fix will now allow Renfe, Spain’s main rail service, to schedule more trains without previous limitations. Southern Spain residents will notice the difference through increased reliability and capacity exactly when summer travel demand peaks. Families, remote workers and holidaymakers all stand to win from the extra options that cut down on booking stress during peak periods.
Small timetable tweaks and practical gains
Renfe introduces minor adjustments to some AVE and Avlo services on the same route from July 17. Passengers will benefit most of all because more seats have become available on popular days, making spontaneous trips or planned visits far simpler. Anyone based in Malaga province or further along the Costa del Sol can start to plan more trips to Madrid with far less hassle.
This will be a long-awaited improvement to local economies as well. Easier travel encourages more movement between southern Spain and the capital for shopping, events, medical appointments or education.
Why this is a good deal better for Southern Spain
People and businesses in Malaga and surrounding towns have been waiting for this for a long time. Their line, especially between Alora and Adamuz, has been a bone of contention for many months and is said to have impacted Costa del Sol businesses, not least around Easter time, greatly.
Summer brings higher travel needs, and these changes deliver exactly that with nearly six per cent more capacity overall.
