Mallorca’s magical opera nights return as Festival Cap Rocat unveils star-studded 2026 line-up

Few places in Europe can rival the dramatic setting of Cap Rocat, where a former military fortress overlooking the Bay of Palma has become one of Mallorca’s most exclusive cultural venues. Next week, that breathtaking backdrop will once again host some of the biggest names in the world of opera and classical music as Festival Cap Rocat returns for its sixth edition.

Running from Thursday July 31 to Sunday August 2, the three-night festival promises an unforgettable combination of internationally acclaimed performers, Mediterranean scenery and world-class music, attracting visitors from across Spain and beyond.

Opening night features celebrated tenor

The festival begins on 31 July with a recital by internationally renowned Peruvian tenor Juan Diego Flórez, widely regarded as one of the greatest operatic voices of his generation.

Accompanied by distinguished pianist Vincenzo Scalera, Flórez will perform a programme featuring works by Bellini, Rossini, Donizetti, Verdi, Massenet, Gounod and a selection of Spanish and Latin American composers. The recital follows a series of acclaimed performances across major Spanish cities, including Madrid, Barcelona, Zaragoza and Seville.

Piano master takes centre stage

On 1 August, legendary Austrian pianist Rudolf Buchbinder will perform an intimate recital showcasing music by Mozart, Beethoven and Schubert.

Recognised as one of the world’s leading interpreters of Beethoven, Buchbinder’s appearance is expected to be one of the highlights of this year’s festival, offering audiences the chance to experience one of classical music’s most respected performers in the unique surroundings of Cap Rocat’s concert hall.

The same day will also see the return of Festival Cap Rocat Inspira: Impulso al Talento, an educational initiative designed to support emerging opera singers selected through auditions held across Spain. Open to the public, the programme reflects the festival’s continuing commitment to developing the next generation of vocal talent.

Grand finale with Puccini’s Tosca

The festival concludes on 2 August with a concert performance of Puccini’s Tosca, conducted by Pablo Mielgo, Music Director of the Orquestra Simfònica de les Illes Balears.

The production brings together an exceptional international cast led by Lise Davidsen in the title role, alongside Freddie De Tommaso as Cavaradossi and Ludovic Tézier as Scarpia. They will be joined by the Orquestra Simfònica de les Illes Balears and the Festival Cap Rocat Choir, directed by Joan Company.

One performer has a particularly special connection to the festival. Sebastià Serra, appearing as Angelotti, previously took part in the festival’s talent development programme in 2024 before earning a place in this year’s main production, highlighting the event’s role in nurturing young artists.

A growing cultural highlight for Mallorca

Since launching in 2021, Festival Cap Rocat has established itself as one of the Balearic Islands’ leading classical music events, combining internationally recognised artists with one of the Mediterranean’s most spectacular performance settings.

Held within the historic fortress of Cap Rocat in Cala Blava, the festival has become known for offering an intimate concert experience where music, architecture and the natural beauty of Mallorca come together under the summer night sky.

With its blend of globally renowned performers, support for emerging talent and unforgettable coastal setting, this year’s edition looks set to once again become one of the island’s standout cultural events of the summer.
