Free theatre, circus and dance are coming to Marbella and Torremolinos this August

Anyone fancying a change from the chiringuito routine might want to check the calendar this month, because something a bit different is happening in two of the Costa del Sol’s favourite towns.

Something for a truly different night out

The Andalucian Network of Public Theatres comes to you this August, bringing four free performances to Marbella and Torremolinos. Run by the regional Ministry of Culture, Historical Heritage and Sport together with both town councils, and best of all none of it needs a ticket or a booking.

Three shows to catch in Marbella

Marbella gets the lion’s share this month, with three of the four performances taking place there. First up, on Thursday, August 6, ‘Pies de gallina’ brings contemporary dance to Plaza de la Libertad at 9pm, from Ana F. Melero and Luna Sanchez. It picked up Best Street Show at both the 2024 PAD Awards and 2025 Lorca Awards, and looks at the small, everyday relationships that hold people together, with plenty of warmth and a fair bit of humour too.

Circus fans should keep Saturday, August 8 free, when La Belle Ecole’s ‘Caricatos’ takes over the Fernando Moreno Promenade at 9pm with acrobatics, clowning and a good dose of old-fashioned theatrical charm. Good fun for kids and adults joint enjoyment.

Closing out the Marbella run on Thursday, August 13, Proyecto Kavauri’s ‘Lullaby’ arrives at the Amphitheatre on Boulevard de San Pedro Alcantara. Expect fast-paced acrobatics wrapped around a story about juggling family life, quite literally at times. It picked up eleven awards at the 2023 Circada festival, so expectations are fairly high.

Torremolinos joins in the fun

Torremolinos gets its date later in the month on Friday, August 28 with ‘Ellas de Oro’, written and performed by Emilio Goyanes of Malaga company La Liquida. It’s a warm, chatty kind of show that mixes theatre, music and comedy to pay tribute to generations of women, the ones who quietly shaped things without ever making the history books.
