Mallorca’s Magaluf set for €8m makeover as Calvià invests in more modern resort

Magaluf is in line for almost €8 million in new investment as Calvià Council steps up its efforts to reshape the popular Mallorca resort and strengthen its focus on safety, infrastructure and responsible tourism.

The funding comes from the Balearic Islands’ Sustainable Tourism Tax and forms part of a wider €16.8 million investment secured by the municipality under the 2026-27 annual plan. Almost €8 million of that total is being dedicated specifically to Magaluf.

More police and improved security

The largest part of the Magaluf package will be used to continue the resort’s ongoing transformation under the council’s ‘Improving Inspection, Safety, and Awareness for Responsible Tourism in Magaluf II’ project.

One of the key measures will be an increase in the number of Local Police officers working in the area.

The investment will also fund improvements to security and video surveillance systems, while additional resources will be provided for the Foreign Tourist Assistance Service, known as SATE, operating from Civil Guard facilities.

The council also plans to continue its ‘Magaluf for All’ awareness campaign, alongside upgrades to municipal infrastructure.

Calvià says previous Sustainable Tourism Tax funding has already supported changes to the resort, including improvements to public services, infrastructure and its tourism image. The campaign has also been linked to gastronomy, literature, music and audiovisual events designed to promote a broader identity for the destination.

Millions more for Calvià

The Magaluf investment is part of a much larger package covering projects throughout the municipality.

More than €8.8 million will be spent on seven projects involving public works, coastal improvements, heritage and environmental restoration.

Santa Ponça will receive the largest allocation, with €2.41 million earmarked for the second phase of improvements to its waterfront. Plans include removing outdated concrete structures, creating a natural stone breakwater, installing a 588-metre wooden walkway and planting native vegetation.

A further €2.38 million will modernise part of the Peguera promenade between Gavines and Torà streets. The work will include replacing water networks, creating more pedestrian space, installing LED lighting and laying fibre-optic infrastructure to support surveillance systems.

Historic and environmental projects

The protected Ca ses Monges convent in Es Capdellà, which dates from 1888, is also set for a major renovation. Almost €1.55 million will be invested to create an accessible, multifunctional centre for cultural activities.

Meanwhile, €1.26 million has been allocated to the renaturalisation of Cala Blanca in Costa de la Calma. The project will remove outdated structures and invasive species and introduce sustainable drainage measures.

Santa Ponça will also receive a new public car park, with almost €600,000 allocated to demolish an existing isolated building and create additional parking in the town centre.

The wider investment package reflects Calvià’s plans to modernise public spaces while continuing the long-term repositioning of Magaluf towards a more diverse and responsible tourism model.
