Spanish households saw their financial wealth rise sharply during 2025, with assets reaching €3.4 trillion and growth comfortably outpacing the wider Western European market. New figures also show equities taking an increasingly important place in household finances, while net financial assets continued to grow despite an increase in borrowing.
Household wealth rises 9.6%
Household financial wealth in Spain increased by 9.6 per cent in 2025, reaching €3.4 trillion and growing at more than twice the rate recorded across Western Europe.
The latest Global Wealth Report from Allianz shows Spain’s increase also exceeded global financial wealth growth of 8.6 per cent.
After accounting for inflation, Spanish household financial assets rose by 6.7 per cent during 2025 and were 12.5 per cent higher than in 2019. By comparison, Western Europe recorded growth of just 0.5 per cent over the same period.
The figures show Spanish households experienced particularly strong growth in their financial assets during the year, with investment performance helping to drive the overall increase.
Equities produce strongest increase
Equities produced the strongest increase, rising 15.5 per cent, compared with 4.7 per cent for deposits and 3.9 per cent for insurance and pensions.
Equities now represent 50.2 per cent of Spanish households’ financial assets, compared with 36.8 per cent across Western Europe.
Households added €92.9 billion in new savings during 2025, an increase of 2.2 per cent. Deposits received 52.1 per cent of this money, while equities accounted for 35.5 per cent and insurance and pensions 9.5 per cent.
Investment funds attracted €49.1 billion, accounting for almost all new money entering the equities category.
Net financial assets reach €2.6 trillion
Household debt also increased, rising 4.6 per cent to €796.6 billion. However, because assets grew faster than borrowing, net financial assets climbed 11.1 per cent to €2.6 trillion.
Spain ranked 20th globally for net financial wealth per person at the end of 2025, at €55,300.
Worldwide, household financial assets reached a record €268.4 trillion, with Allianz forecasting further growth of around 9 per cent during 2026.
