Ruth Lorenzo chosen to represent Spain in Eurovision 2014

Ruth Lorenzo will sing "Dancing in the rain" at Eurovision 2014

Heavily- tipped Ruth Lorenzo will represent Spain in this year’s Eurovision song contest in Copenhaguen, Denmark next May with her song “Dancing in the rain”

The song came out top in the televised final during Mira quien va a Eurovision (Look who’s going to Eurovision).  The public vote accounted for 50 per cent of the score with the remainder coming from a jury composed of Monica Naranjo, David Bustamente and Merche – three top Spanish entertainers.

“Dancing in the rain” was written at what Lorenzo told a TVE interviewer was “a dark moment” in her life. “I’d been living in the UK for 18 months and wanted to return home because I couldn’t take any more,” she said. “But I realised that however many black clouds there are you have to dance in the rain and move on.”

Relatively unknown in Spain, Lorenzo finished in the top five of the UK’s X Factor with Dannii Minogue as her mentor in 2008.  She recently signed with a new record company and is aiming at the international market as well as Spain.

Being chosen was “a great moment” not least because she had at last performed in public in her own country, Lorenzo said.
