More people in the province of Alicante are taking out private health insurance.
The economic crisis has not dented health insurers as the number of people taking out private health insurance policies in Alicante province has seen an annual increase of 3%.
Agents in the market say the increase is largely due to two main issues. Firstly, the services offered by insurers includes a wide range of medical specialties; many of which are not covered on the national health system.
Also, further cuts in the public health, with consequent delays in diagnostic tests or increased waiting lists for operations has led more people to taking out private coverage.
Health insurance policies are also becoming more competitively priced and are below the European average.
