Airspace was closed in a number of regions as the rocket passed overhead, with unconfirmed reports of fragments falling to back to earth along its flightpath over Europe and the Middle East.
Western governments have expressed dismay at the manner in which Chinese authorities have dealt with the uncontrolled re-entry of the rocket. This is, however, not the first time the Chinese have been found wanting in this area with previous rockets used to ferry goods to their space station having been allowed to freefall back to earth.
