Les Marines Gymnastics Club in Calpe has announced a significant milestone for the local sporting scene: Calpe gymnast Sophie O’Reilly has been selected by the Valencian Gymnastics Federation to take part in the 2025 Talent Identification Day, organised by the Royal Spanish Gymnastics Federation.
A milestone for local sport and recognition for hard work
This call-up comes after an exceptional season for Sophie, whose dedication, consistency and passion have stood out remarkably in her discipline. For the club, this selection represents “a well-deserved recognition of the athlete’s tremendous effort and a great motivation to keep growing.”
Journey to the national stage
Sophie, accompanied by her coach Aroa Pineda, will travel to Madrid tomorrow, Saturday 15 November, to participate in the talent identification event. The programme will take place at the High Performance Centre (CAR), where the Calpe gymnast will enjoy a unique experience alongside top gymnasts from the Valencian Community and other autonomous regions.
Club support and gratitude
The Les Marines Club has also expressed its gratitude to the Valencian Gymnastics Federation (FGCV) for the trust placed in both Sophie and the work carried out by the club’s technical team.
Well-wishes for a bright future
“The whole club is behind Sophie, and we are certain this will be an unforgettable experience,” the board said, wishing their gymnast the very best as she makes the most of this opportunity and embraces every learning experience that comes with competing at a national level.
Gymnastics in Calpe
Calpe has been steadily growing as a hub for rhythmic gymnastics, with local clubs like Les Marines providing young athletes with professional coaching and regular competitions. The town has produced several talented gymnasts in recent years, reflecting the dedication of both coaches and families in nurturing sporting talent.
The national gymnastics scene in Spain
In Spain, gymnastics enjoys a strong following, particularly rhythmic gymnastics, which has produced world-class athletes and Olympic competitors. Talent identification programmes like the one Sophie will attend are key to spotting future stars and providing them with the training and exposure needed to succeed at both national and international levels.
