Cristiano Ronaldo is making waves in Spanish football once again, this time off the pitch. After his dominant La Liga run, playing for Real Madrid, the global sports-star has returned to Spain as an investor, acquiring a 25 per cent stake in UD Almeria. The move marks another bold step in Ronaldo’s growing sports business empire and could reshape the future of the ambitious Second Division club.
Ronaldo returns as an investor
Cristiano Ronaldo’s footballing legacy is nothing short of remarkable. Almost ten years since he played in the Spanish football league and fans are still wearing jersey’s bearing his name.
For the first time since departing Real Madrid in 2018, Ronaldo is returning to Spain, not as a player but an investor. It was recently announced that through his CR7 Sports Investment group, Cristiano Ronaldo has acquired a 25 per cent stake in UD Almeria.
CR7 Sports Investment expands portfolio
This move stands to further expand Ronaldo’s impressive investment portfolio, and bring a renewed interest to Almeria’s promising club.
Having scored 965 goals throughout his esteemed career, Ronaldo expertise is unlike any other. His experience competing at the highest level, in clubs and leagues all over the world, will offer invaluable insights to the UD Almeria’s management and its players.
Speaking on the acquisition, Ronaldo said “I have always had the ambition to contribute to football beyond the pitch. UD Almeria is a club with solid foundation and clear growth potential. I am truly excited to work alongside the management team to support the next phase of the club’s development.”
Mohammed Al-Khereiji and Cristiano Ronaldo: a strategic partnership
While Ronaldo has expressed a keen interest in finding new ways to make an impact in the sport, the UD Almeria deal was facilitated by owner, Mohammed Al-Khereiji. The two long-time friends have now formalised their partnership with ambitions of elevating the Spanish club to new heights.
Al-Khereiji sees a lot of value in Ronaldo’s partnership with the club.” We are very happy that Cristiano has chosen our club to invest in. He is considered the best player of all time, knows La Liga in Spain very well, and understands the potential of what we are building here, both in terms of the team and the Academy.”
CR7’s investment will undoubtedly help UD Almeria evolve as a team and a sporting franchise.
UD Almeria’s promotion push
UD Almeria are currently enjoying a fantastic competitive season in Spain’s Second Division. They currently stand in third place, just one and two points behind the leaders. If they maintain this strong form, the club has a real chance at being promoted to La Liga’s First Division for the first time since 2023/2024.
