UK holidaymakers looking for a little respite from the cold start to the year are showing signs of changing their Easter plans to Spain’s beaches while the Iran war still rages, a conflict which escalated on February 28 when Iran began indiscriminately bombing all other nations in the region.

Airlines are reporting a sudden rush to reserve European short-haul flights, while Middle Eastern hubs face more and more cancellations. Travel experts now predict between 11 and 27 per cent (and more if the conflict draws out) drops in regional arrivals there, diverting millions wanting to get away from it all to safer warm spots like Spain.

Why bookings surge for Spanish hols

Ryanair has seen massive increases in demand for routes to Spain, Portugal, and Italy as conflicts render Middle East destinations off-limits and unviable. Balearic Islands officials are promoting opportunities for high-spending visitors rerouting from Dubai or Qatar. Spain’s neutral stance (albeit so far only words) and stable infrastructure are making Spain more attractive than ever. 2025’s record 97 million visitors are setting a strong base for 2026 growth despite fuel price hikes.

I wonder if we will see a rise in the price of hotels just like the rise in fuel prices. Rip off the customer time again
