For the hundreds of thousands of expats living in Spain, Easter is one of the most significant times of the year to reflect and attend church. However, many residents and visitors quickly discover that the traditional processions of Semana Santa and the accompanying masses are almost exclusively held in Spanish or regional languages. If you are hoping to celebrate the holiday in your native language, you don’t have to search blindly—from the cathedrals of Madrid to the coastal communities of the Costa del Sol, there is a growing network of churches specifically catering to the international community.
Here is where you can find English-language Easter services across the country this year.
Barcelona’s international Catholic community
Barcelona hosts one of Spain’s largest international Catholic communities, and English-language masses are available for both residents and visitors.
The Barcelona English Mass community organises regular Catholic services in English for expats, international students and travellers. These masses are held weekly and continue during Holy Week.
Some services at Sagrada Familia Basilica also include international participation during major celebrations such as Easter. In addition, several Anglican and international Protestant congregations in the city offer English-language services for foreign residents.
English Easter mass in Madrid
Madrid has one of Spain’s most established English-speaking Catholic parishes. The Our Lady of Mercy parish is dedicated to English-language worship and serves Madrid’s international Catholic community. Regular Sunday masses are held in English, and special liturgies are organised during Holy Week, including Easter celebrations.
Costa Blanca churches serving the expat community
The Costa Blanca is one of Spain’s largest expat hubs, particularly for British and northern European residents, and several churches along the Alicante coast hold regular services in English.
One option is the English Church Benidorm, located near Levante Beach, which holds a Sunday morning service in English at around 11:00 and welcomes both residents and visitors.
In Torrevieja, the Parroquia San Pedro y San Pablo offers a Catholic mass in English every Sunday morning at around 9:15, serving the town’s large international community.
Further north, the Costa Blanca Anglican Chaplaincy of the Holy Spirit runs services in several locations including Javea, Calpe and Alfaz del Pi, while Alicante Church gathers weekly for English-language worship in Alicante city.
Costa Calida congregations in the Murcia region
The Costa Calida in the Murcia region also has a strong international community, particularly around Mazarron, Camposol and Los Alcazares.
One of the best-known churches is St Nicholas Ecumenical Church in Camposol (Mazarron), which serves the large British community in the area and holds services in English throughout the year.
Nearby, Mazarron Anglican Church also welcomes English-speaking worshippers and typically organises services for major Christian celebrations including Easter.
In Los Alcazares, the St Peter’s Anglican congregation meets regularly for English-language worship, while La Manga Christian Fellowship holds services in English for residents and visitors staying around La Manga del Mar Menor.
Costa del Sol’s large network of English churches
The Costa del Sol has one of the largest English-speaking communities in Spain, and as a result it offers a wide range of churches with services in English.
In Malaga, St George’s Anglican Church regularly hosts English-language services and attracts worshippers from across the province.
Where English Easter services can be found in Mallorca
Mallorca also has a long-established international community, particularly around Palma and the southwest coast.
One of the best-known options is St Philip and St James Anglican Church in Palma, which serves English-speaking residents and visitors and typically holds services in English during Holy Week and Easter.
In the Calvia area, expats often attend Santa Ponsa Community Church, an English-speaking Protestant congregation popular with British residents.
Planning to attend an English Easter service in Spain
Anyone hoping to attend an English-language Easter mass should check church websites or parish announcements in advance. Service times can change during Holy Week, and some churches add additional services specifically for visitors.
