The Torrevieja Local Police were called to the Vistalegre parking lot after receiving a peculiar call about the presence of several cats inside a parked vehicle. On Wednesday, March 11, the police arrived at the parking lot and discovered that three cats had entered the car through the engine compartment and were hiding underneath the vehicle.

After carrying out the necessary checks, the officers rescued the cats from underneath the car, taking special care to ensure the safety of the animals at all times. The cats were eventually released unharmed.

Drivers should check their vehicles before setting off

The Torrevieja Local Police took the opportunity to remind drivers of the importance of revising their vehicle before taking off, especially the engine and undercarriage; small animals may seek refuge in these areas, especially during cold weather.

The local authorities, rescuing animals and protecting wildlife on the Costa

Local authorities, including the police and firefighters in the Alicante province, are essential first responders for rescues of both animals and humans. This feline rescue calls to mind an incident last month, when Alicante firefighters rescued a horse that had fallen into a well in Pinoso.

The Torrevieja Local Police have also been specially instructed on the rescue and care of marine animals on the coast; during a programme held at the Oceanogràfic Foundation, the Torrevieja officials were instructed on what to do if an animal appears on the coast. Steps included assessing the animal’s condition, securing the area to ensure citizen and animal safety, and communication with specialised technical teams.

Thanks to the quick thinking of the citizen who called, and the equally quick intervention of the Torrevieja Local Police, the cats were safely removed from the vehicle. As for regular citizens, they are urged to call authorities if they see an animal stranded, in pain or otherwise needing help.
