Residents of Torre del Mar can finally breathe easy after years of unease. Police have successfully deported a 45-year-old Romanian man whose disruptive actions had sown widespread worry across this peaceful Malaga coastal town.

Widespread alarm from aggressive and obscene behaviour

Aggressive outbursts and obscene conduct marked this individual’s presence since settling in the area in 2021. Locals frequently witnessed intimidating episodes that left many feeling vulnerable. Neighbours responded by recording incidents and sharing videos on social media, leading to urgent demands for police intervention and revealing the growing community distress.

Vandalism wave heightened fears among locals

Numerous parked vehicles fell victim to deliberate damage on public streets in recent months. These acts of vandalism compounded existing worries, prompting a rise in formal complaints and reinforcing the sense that everyday safety had eroded. Families and elderly residents particularly felt the impact, avoiding certain areas after dark.

Persistent police investigation overcomes legal hurdles

Officers from the National Police’s Local Immigration and Borders Brigade in Velez-Malaga initiated proceedings in October 2025. Multiple open cases complicated matters, requiring judicial approvals from courts in Malaga capital, Velez-Malaga, and Barcelona. His extensive criminal history encompassed violent robbery, intimidation, burglary, property damage, and various prior arrests by different police forces.

Coordinated effort gets successful expulsion

Several National Police units joined forces, navigating administrative and judicial requirements with determination. Authorities completed the process in February, escorting the man onto a flight to Romania and enforcing his permanent removal from Spain. Within the Schengen area, of which Romania is now a member, citizens are free to move from one country to another without restrictions. That is, until they commit a crime, no matter how small. Police are then, without question, permitted to repatriate that person to the country of their passport.

Community welcomes return of peace and security

Gratitude floods social media and local conversations now that the source of so much anxiety has gone. The outcome shows the value of persistent reporting and strong police-community collaboration in reclaiming safety for Torre del Mar.
