Motorway traffic between Seville and Huelva delivered an unforgettable roadside moment recently. Drivers witnessed a car towing an open trailer piled high with mattresses from the Seville-based company 5Bed. Atop the stack lay what appeared to be a person taking a siesta face-up during the journey.
Mannequin marketing trick fools many onlookers
Closer inspection revealed the figure as a highly realistic shop mannequin, fixed in place for maximum visual impact. The setup generated an eerily lifelike effect that left passing motorists stunned before hilarity set in. Many initially believed someone had chosen an unconventional spot for a nap on the moving load.
Instagram videos spread rapidly across social platforms.
Footage captured on Thursday, April 9, by a driver overtaking the trailer quickly gained traction online. Posted to Instagram by user Rafa Maya Barrero (@rafael7030), the clip amassed over 28,000 likes and nearly 400 comments within hours. Viewers loved the unexpected creativity that turned an ordinary mattress delivery into free publicity far more effective than any planned campaign.

Humorous comments typically show Andalucian ingenuity.
Observers shared light-hearted reactions while watching the recording. Comments included remarks such as hoping the “partner” stayed put or joking that at least the figure enjoyed peaceful rest. Others celebrated the stunt with phrases like “great advertising for selling mattresses – ¡Viva Espña!” and “the best publicity seen in Seville, going viral without spending a penny”. Some admitted falling for the illusion at first glance, describing the scene as both heavy and hilarious. Social media users embrace the surreal roadside humour.
DGT trailer rules on Spanish roads
However, laughter aside, drivers must follow strict Dirección General de Tráfico (DGT) guidelines when using trailers.
Permitted actions include:
- Towing a light trailer (MMA up to 750 kg) with a standard category B licence, provided the total combination does not exceed 3,500 kg.
- Using the B96 authorisation for heavier trailers where the combined mass stays under 4,250 kg.
- Securing loads properly over the axles to maintain stability and balance.
- Observing reduced speed limits: 90 km/h on motorways and autovías, and 80 km/h on conventional roads when towing.
Prohibited actions include the following:
- Carrying any passengers inside a trailer or caravan at any time, asleep or otherwise.
- Allowing the load to overhang excessively without proper V-20 reflective signalling panels.
- Towing without checking the vehicle’s maximum towable mass listed in its technical specifications.
