Lace up your walking shoes and fill up your water bottles for the “Don’t Be a Man – Step Up & Get a Check Up” charity walk on Sunday, May 17.
The 9km sponsored walk will begin at peoples favourite Dempsey’s Irish Bar in Dona Lola Calahonda, with everyone gathering together from 9.30am before setting off at 10am. Walkers will make their way along the stunning coast to Biddy Mulligan’s La Cala for a pit stop refreshment before continuing to Garden Bar and eventually when the legs can give no more, returning to Dempsey’s for a well deserved lunch, live entertainment and a fundraising raffle.
Entry is €10, and includes a commemorative T-shirt and lunch, sponsor cards are also available for participants wishing to raise even more additional funds.
The day hopes to raise funds for three well needed causes
Money raised will support three fantastic causes. Firstly, free PSA prostate cancer testing at Clinica El Campanario, also the purchase of a defibrillator for the Dona Lola complex, and then supporting local mental health initiative Walk & Talk Somer Wood.
The event is about breaking down stigmas around men’s health and encouraging early intervention and open discussion. Prostate cancer is sadly still one of the most common cancers affecting men worldwide, but early PSA testing can significantly improve survival rates. Campaigners hope the event will encourage more men to speak up, attend regular check-ups and seek support when needed.
The day doesn’t stop at the walk. Entertainment during the afternoon will be provided by the talented vocalist and violinist Crissie then later in the early evening popular Costa del Sol band Monkey Tennis will be treating the walkers to some soul, funk and rock.
Local businesses supporting the event include Bed Warehouse Spain S.L, Bronzed Tanning Studio Riviera, Biddy Mulligan’s La Cala, Dempsey’s Irish Bar and Garden Bar Rocas del Mar.
So Don’t Be a Man, sign up and be part of the day. WhatsApp +34 622 356 056 to get your name down to walk and talk.
