Luck is in the air in Mojácar. Earlier this week, one lucky person has started June with an extra million euros in their bank account, after winning the top prize in the Bonoloto, worth more than €1.1 million.

All it took was six numbers – 1, 2, 35, 41, 23 and 24 – to secure the owner of the Bonoloto ticket the top prize in the draw. As the only first-prize winner in Sunday’s Bonoloto, the lucky player walked away with a whopping €1,176,801.

Locals hope lightning strikes twice at lucky lottery shop

The winning ticket was sold in the Vista de Los Angeles-Rumina area on Paseo del Mediterráneo, a popular part of the coastal town known for its cafés, bars and busy summer atmosphere. News of the win quickly spread across Mojácar on Monday morning, with locals eager to discover whether the mystery millionaire might be someone they know.

The lottery outlet that sold the winning ticket is now expected to see an increase in customers over the coming days as hopeful players try their luck at the same location. In Spain, lottery shops that produce major winners often gain a reputation for being “lucky,” attracting visitors from neighbouring towns and even tourists hoping fortune might strike again.

Excitement in the air in Mojácar

The win has caused a real buzz in Mojácar, with locals swapping theories about who the mystery millionaire might be: a local, a tourist, maybe even somebody they know personally? Lottery wins of this size are rare in smaller towns, and stories of sudden fortune tend to spread quickly through the community. No doubt everyone else who bought a ticket over the weekend was double checking their numbers come Monday morning.

Two others also won a more moderate but still life-changing sum on Sunday. Their tickets, validated in El Grau-Moncofa, Castellon and Preigo de Cordoba, Cordoba were each worth €64,914.

While the identity of the winner remains unknown, one thing is certain: somewhere in Mojácar there is one happy individual celebrating in style.
