Malaga will become a heart of a powerful community effort this weekend as the city hosts two major charity events back-to-back in support of children fighting cancer. Bringing together local residents, the expat community, medical professionals, and support organisations, both events are an easy and rewarding way to enjoy the summer weather while raising vital funds for a great cause.
Online registration is quick and straightforward for anyone wishing to lace up their trainers and get involved.
Saturday, June 13, The fourth annual charity run Malaga with the Andres Olivares foundation
The weekend kick-starts with a unique twilight event organized by a local charity supporting children and teenagers undergoing cancer treatment across the province.
Time & Location: Saturday, June 13 at 8:3pm. Setting off from the Palmeral de las Sorpresas at the Puerto de Malaga.
The Route: Participants can choose between a 5k or 10k route, with a shorter kids’ category, making it entirely flexible whether you want to run for a personal best or take a casual evening stroll by the marina.
Entry Fee:€15 for adults and €8 for children, which includes a runner’s bag and official event t-shirt.
Where the money goes: This single event brings in roughly 10% of the foundation’s annual income. Last year, the community raised an incredible €60,000, which fully funded specialized physiotherapy and speech therapy for over 100 children for an entire year. This year, if the event raises €25,000 via registrations, a regional banking partner has pledged an extra €10,000 bonus donation.
Sign up: Registration is handled online through the foundation’s official event platform.
Sunday, June 14, The second childhood cancer solidarity walk with Malaga regional hospital and Ibima Bionand
If you prefer a morning stroll, Sunday is a solidarity walk organized by the city’s hospital network and local clinical research teams.
Time & Location: Sunday, June 14 at 10am. Starting from La Noria (the Ferris wheel landmark), right next to the Materno Infantil Hospital.
The Route: A scenic, relaxed 5-km solidarity walk that follows the Paseo Maritimo all the way towards La Termica.
Entry Fee: €10 for adults and €5 for children under 12, including an event t-shirt, water, and fresh fruit at the finish line. The day will also feature lively family entertainment and games for children.
Where the money goes: 100% of the proceeds are channelled directly into cutting-edge paediatric cancer research projects being conducted right here in Malaga by local clinical scientists.
Sign up: Registration is open online through the regional sports registration portal, Dorsalchip.
How to get involved
Whether you are an avid runner or looking for a meaningful family weekend activity out in the sunshine, both events are highly accessible and entirely family-friendly. If you cannot attend in person but would still like to support the causes, both registration pages offer a “Dorsal Cero” (Row Zero) option, allowing you to make a direct donation online.
Grab your family, invite your friends, and join hundreds of locals this weekend to walk, run, and bring hope to young patients across the Costa del Sol.
