A simple morning of community action made a big difference in l’Albir this weekend, as volunteers rolled up their sleeves to remove an impressive 500 kilograms of rubbish from one of the Costa Blanca’s best-loved coastal areas.

The environmental clean-up, organised by the Rotary Club International of l’Alfàs del Pi and the Red Cross in partnership with l’Alfàs del Pi Town Hall, brought together residents of all ages under the banner “Together for a Cleaner Environment.” The initiative focused on the Bulevar de los Músicos in l’Albir, demonstrating how collective action can have an immediate impact on the local landscape.

Community spirit shines through

Starting from the Biblioplaya in l’Albir, volunteers spent the morning collecting discarded waste while also helping to raise awareness about protecting the environment. Equipped with gloves, rubbish bags and drinking water provided by the organisers, participants worked together in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere that encouraged both environmental responsibility and community spirit.

By the end of the event, around half a tonne of waste had been removed from the area, helping restore one of the municipality’s most popular coastal spaces ahead of the busy summer season.

Praise for local volunteers

Representatives from l’Alfàs del Pi Town Hall joined the clean-up to thank those taking part.

Councillor for Cooperation and Volunteering Isabel Muñoz praised the strong public response, saying she was delighted by the commitment shown throughout the morning.

She said caring for the local environment is a shared responsibility and that initiatives like this prove small individual actions can create a significant collective impact. Muñoz also highlighted the value of collaboration between local authorities, charities and community organisations, describing the partnership as an example of the strength of volunteering.

Councillor for Resident Associations and Clubs Patrick de Meirsman also attended the event, emphasising l’Alfàs del Pi’s international character.

He said the municipality is home to people from many different nationalities and that activities like the clean-up provide an excellent opportunity for residents and visitors to work side by side towards a common goal of protecting an environment enjoyed by everyone.

More than just a litter pick

For the organisers, the event was about far more than removing rubbish.

The Rotary Club International of l’Alfàs del Pi, founded in 2017, regularly supports educational, humanitarian and social projects centred on service, solidarity and community involvement. Meanwhile, the local Red Cross continues to run programmes covering social care, health, emergency response, youth initiatives, training and environmental protection.

Together, the organisations hope events like this inspire more people to become involved in caring for their local surroundings.

With 500 kilograms of waste removed in just a few hours, the clean-up served as a powerful reminder that when neighbours, charities and local authorities work together, even small acts of volunteering can make a visible and lasting difference to the places people call home.
