The Rotary Club Mallorca has officially welcomed a new president during its annual handover ceremony, marking the end of one Rotary year and the beginning of another as the organisation prepares to celebrate its 100th anniversary.

Members, guests and district representatives gathered for the traditional change of presidency, an occasion that reflected on a year of community service while looking ahead to what promises to be a historic chapter for one of Mallorca’s longest-established service organisations.

Celebrating a year of service

Outgoing president Catalina Font opened the ceremony by looking back on the club’s achievements through a photographic presentation, highlighting not only the projects completed over the past year but also the values that underpin Rotary’s work.

She described the club as a giant puzzle, with every member contributing different talents, experience and skills to support local communities. While many of Rotary’s projects are visible across the island, she said some of the organisation’s greatest successes are found in the everyday commitment of its volunteers and the friendships built through service.

The ceremony also recognised members who have made exceptional contributions to the club’s work.

Several prestigious Paul Harris Fellow distinctions were presented, one of Rotary’s highest honours, celebrating individuals whose dedication and commitment have had a lasting impact on the organisation and its charitable projects. Among those recognised were outgoing president Catalina Font, incoming president Marta Mayordomo and several long-serving club members.

Looking towards the centenary

The highlight of the evening came with the formal passing of the Rotary chain of office, as Catalina Font handed leadership of the club to Marta Mayordomo.

Taking to the podium for the first time as president, Mayordomo spoke of the privilege and responsibility of leading the club during such an important period. Her term will coincide with preparations for the Rotary Club Mallorca’s centenary, a milestone that is expected to be celebrated with special events and community initiatives over the coming year.

Font pledged her full support to her successor as the club enters its next chapter.

The ceremony concluded with thanks to District 2203 Governor Carmen Andreu, Assistant District Governor Rocío Aznar, the outgoing board and all members who have supported the club throughout the year.

As a final surprise, Catalina Font was presented with a commemorative plaque in recognition of her leadership, bringing an emotional close to a year defined by service, friendship and a shared commitment to making a difference across Mallorca.
