Age in Spain, a national charity that has increased its presence in the Region of Murcia, has confirmed that its three central services will continue throughout the summer. Unlike many charities, which close through July and August, this organisation dedicated to helping English-speaking seniors in Spain will still offer essential resources, answer questions, and provide companionship, come rain, shine, or sweltering summer heat.

Never turning their backs on seniors in Spain: Keeping connected through the summer heat

Under the local slogan, “We Will Never Turn Our Backs on You,” the organisation will continue with its Friendline team, through which seniors can continue to chat with their “Buddies” throughout the summer. This is especially significant during the summertime, when the heat can become a risk factor for vulnerable people, and many seniors are forced to remain indoors, adding to their isolation and loneliness.

Practical guidance and digital support networks

Additionally, the charity’s HelpDesk will continue on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, available on the charity’s central number, T. 0034 932 20 97 41, between 11:00am and 1:00pm. Through this line, volunteers help seniors with a wide range of legal and social enquiries, from UK benefits, to Spanish legal proceedings, and practical issues about living in or moving to Spain.

This charity also offers advice sheets, which are continuously updated and can be accessed through the official website, ageinspain.org.

Moreover, the Age in Spain Dementia Carer’s Support Group on Facebook will continue to be active through July and August. Here, people whose lives are being affected by caring for a loved one with dementia, whether firsthand or from a distance, can join, learn, vent, ask for help, or sit quietly while taking comfort from other people’s experience.

Local updates and future plans in Murcia

Despite these central services continuing without a hitch, Age in Spain in Murcia are taking a break from the music/well-being support they give to CEA and CEE/Aidemar in San Pedro del Pinatar, returning by invitation to the Day Centre in September. However, their work with the Forget-Me-Not charity in Camposol, an organisation dedicated to helping those with dementia, will continue through the summer.

“The Murcia Age in Spain team are not resting on their laurels,” stated the charity in an announcement. “We are already working on various ideas and plans to expand their work and presence in this region.”
