Five days after arrival, on Saturday, July 11, Colin, 89, and Claudette just walked out around 11.15am, according to CCTV footage.

Family members soon learned of their departure. Colin left a reassuring note for Linda that read: “Don’t worry, I’ll make sure I look after her.” The pair stopped at The Glen Shopping Centre in Glen Waverley, roughly 15 miles from the village. There they collected daily medication and continued onwards in their white 2015 Mazda 2.

Police located the couple in Maryborough, some 118 miles northwest, after a 32-hour search. This had been their second known attempt to leave the facility.

Couple settles into on-the-road life

One week after the initial disappearance, Colin and Claudette are still living in a motel and show no interest in returning. Linda reported that her parents disliked the new setting and resisted major changes. Colin, described as clever and independent, continues to drive and manage daily needs.

Concerns are still around because both experience health issues: Colin with Alzheimer’s and Claudette prone to seizures. Linda stressed the importance of professional care while acknowledging her parents’ determination and devoted love for each other.

Messages from the family call for the pair to head back, yet Colin and Claudette prefer their current setup. Linda said nothing about uncertainty about next steps but hinted at possible future escapes based on past behaviour.
