Conflicting accounts and a police investigation have turned a violent incident outside a popular Marbella venue into a case attracting attention.

Video footage captures violent confrontation outside Marbella venue

National Police are investigating a violent altercation outside NAÔ Pool Club in Marbella after video footage showing a confrontation between security staff and two men was published online. The incident reportedly took place at around 7pm on Sunday, July 19, outside the popular venue in Nueva Andalucia. Footage appears to show several members of the security team involved in a physical confrontation with two men in the club’s car park while bystanders react to the incident. The recording does not show what happened immediately before the altercation.

British newspaper The Sun published witness accounts of the incident, with Spanish news outlet Area Costa del Sol has since reported further details based on information attributed to police sources.

Marbella hotspot popular with international visitors

Located in Nueva Andalucia, NAÔ Pool Club is one of Marbella’s more well-known daytime entertainment venues. Popular with international tourists visiting the Costa del Sol, seeking its high end pool parties, live DJs and day-bed experiences throughout the summer season.

Spanish reports describe events before the footage begins

According to Spanish media, the confrontation began after security staff attempted to carry out a search on two men. The publication reports that one of the men allegedly refused to be searched, after which a physical confrontation took place. One injured member of staff reportedly told police: “He refused the search, punched me and they threw a stone at me.”

Injuries reported on both sides

Area, reports that two members of the security team were treated in the Emergency Department at Hospital Costa del Sol before later being discharged. The publication also states that complaints have been lodged by both the two men involved in the incident and members of the security staff.

Meanwhile, UK media reported witness claims that several members of the security team continued striking at least one of the men after he had fallen to the ground. Witnesses also alleged that a woman attempted to intervene by hitting members of the security team with her handbag. Additional witness claims published by The Sun allege that some security staff attempted to stop people filming the incident and tried to take mobile phones from bystanders recording the confrontation. Those allegations have not been confirmed by police.

Investigation continues

National Police are continuing their investigation and, at the time of writing, no arrests or criminal charges had been announced. NAÔ Pool Club had not issued a public statement on the incident at the time of publication.
