Cancer survivor gives back after calling local nurses her ‘angels without wings’

It began as a summer garden party filled with flowers, sunshine and neighbours coming together. By the end of the day, it had become something much more powerful, raising almost €1,500 to help ensure people facing one of life’s toughest challenges continue to receive free care and support close to home.

Cancer Care Jávea has thanked local resident and cancer survivor Marilyn Tomlinson after she presented the charity with a cheque for €1,477, raised through her Summer Garden Party fundraiser.

For Marilyn, the donation represents far more than the proceeds of a successful community event. Having experienced cancer herself, she knows first-hand the difference compassionate support can make during treatment and recovery.

Throughout her own cancer journey, Marilyn received care from Cancer Care Jávea’s nursing team, who she affectionately describes as her “angels without wings.” Inspired by the support she received, she decided to organise the fundraising event as a way of giving something back and helping others who may now be facing a similar diagnosis.

Supporting local families

The €1,477 donation will help Cancer Care Jávea continue providing its free nursing service to people affected by cancer across the local community.

The charity offers practical advice, emotional support and professional nursing care to patients and their families, helping people navigate the physical and emotional challenges that often accompany a cancer diagnosis. Its services are provided free of charge, relying heavily on donations, fundraising events and the generosity of the local community.

Every contribution helps ensure specialist nurses can continue supporting patients both during treatment and afterwards, while also offering reassurance and guidance to loved ones.

While Marilyn’s determination made the event possible, Cancer Care stressed that the fundraising success belonged to everyone who attended, donated or lent a helping hand.
