Competa’s 2026 summer fair ends with fireworks, music and cherished traditions

Four days of concerts and community events brought another edition of the Feria de Competa to a close, with the Town Hall thanking everyone who took part in this year’s celebrations.

Music, dancing and family events filled the air of the fair

Competa’s 2026 summer fair ran from July 23 to 26, with a programme organised by the Town Hall featuring live music, family activities, traditional events and religious celebrations across the Axarquia village.

Saturday’s programme began with a parade through the streets led by brass band Los Mihitas, followed by a free Zumba class and a performance by MusArmonia’s urban dance group in Plaza Almijara. Later that evening, legendary Andalucian rock band Medina Azahara performed at the town hall marquee as part of the group’s farewell tour.

Foam party and traditional events returned

Plaza Almijara once again hosted the annual foam party, with entertainment provided by DJ Bixo and DJ Juni. Sharing drone footage by Miguel Angel Romero on its official Facebook page, the Town Hall described the event as one of the fair’s most anticipated traditions.

Another long-standing feature of the programme saw Parque Arroyo Lara host the traditional carreras de Cintas (the traditional horse and motorcycle ribbon races). Friday evening included the annual Noche del Mayor, where older residents were invited to enjoy refreshments before performances by copla singer Isabel España and MusArmonía’s flamenco dance students. Singer Camin later took to the stage to round off the night’s entertainment.

Romeria and closing celebrations

The annual Romeria, a traditional pilgrimage and procession honouring the village’s patron saint passed through the streets of Competa, in a post published after the procession, the council thanked participants and said it was pleased with the level of participation

Celebrations concluded on Sunday evening with performances by orchestras Tentacion and Vintash before DJ Juni brought the entertainment to a close. Afterwards, the end of the 2026 fair was marked with a traditional fireworks finale and thanks went to the people of Competa for taking part throughout the festivities.
