Estepona drivers are even closer to getting some breathing space with new car park 70% complete

Anyone who has circled Estepona’s centre hunting for a parking space for the tenth time this summer will be excited by this update. Council engineers confirm that foundation work on the underground car park beneath Estepona’s new boulevard has reached 75 per cent completion, with the final concrete pour pencilled in for August 2026. Once finished, the facility will hold spaces for more than 300 vehicles, as part of the town’s local parking network at a flat rate of one euro a day.

Foundations near completion, roof taking shape

Builders working the site around Avenidas San Lorenzo, Juan Carlos I and España have finished laying underground channels for electricity, telecoms, drinking water, irrigation and drainage. That milestone has allowed pedestrian access to reopen along Avenida San Lorenzo, restoring an east-west route through the neighbourhood that had been cut off during construction.

Progress on the car park structure itself is tracking closely with council projections. Beyond the foundation work, the intermediate floor slab sits at roughly 50 per cent, while roof construction has climbed to 40 per cent and is due for completion in September 2026.

Juan Carlos I avenue reaches 60 per cent

Urbanisation work on Avenida Juan Carlos I has hit 60 per cent, with crews now focused on tying this stretch into the perpendicular streets of San Roque and Melilla. Once linked, residents should notice smoother traffic flow through what has long been a congested corner of town.

What drivers and pedestrians can expect

Above ground, planners have pencilled in plazas, walkways, water features and green spaces designed to soften the area’s transformation from busy roadside into a genuine public gathering point. Dedicated bays for taxis, loading and unloading, motorbikes, electric cars and bicycles are also part of the layout, catering to a broad mix of commuters and shoppers.

Linking old town with new boulevard

Finishing this stretch brings Estepona a step closer to joining its seafront promenade with the historic quarter behind it, a link locals have been waiting years to see completed. For a town packed with visitors every summer, that gap closing could genuinely ease how people move between beach and old town.
