Roger Federer pays touching visit to Rafa Nadal’s new Mallorca museum

One of tennis’s greatest champions has returned to Mallorca to celebrate the remarkable career of one of his closest friends and fiercest rivals.

Roger Federer paid a special visit to the newly transformed Rafa Nadal Museum at the Rafa Nadal Academy in Manacor, offering a heartfelt endorsement of the attraction that tells the story of the Mallorcan legend’s extraordinary journey from a young island talent to one of the greatest players in tennis history.

Although Rafael Nadal was unable to join him on this occasion, Federer was welcomed by Nadal’s father, Sebastián Nadal, Academy Tennis Director Gustavo Marcaccio and museum manager Gonzalo Pérez, who guided him through the redesigned exhibition.

A museum celebrating one of sport’s greatest careers

The newly renovated museum has been redesigned to immerse visitors in Nadal’s life and career through interactive technology, large-scale audiovisual displays, original memorabilia and exhibits celebrating many of the defining moments of his sporting journey.

Among the highlights is a dedicated section honouring tennis’s legendary “Big Three” of Nadal, Federer and Novak Djokovic. The exhibition brings together personal artefacts and exclusive footage charting the era that dominated men’s tennis for almost two decades.

Federer, who visited the academy nearly ten years after attending its official opening in 2016, praised the transformation.

“It’s marvellous to see it all. It’s beautiful. There’s a huge amount of work behind it, but above all, it’s very moving,” he said after touring the attraction.

From fierce rivals to lifelong friends

Federer and Nadal’s relationship remains one of the most admired stories in modern sport.

Between 2004 and 2019, the pair faced each other 40 times, producing some of tennis’s most unforgettable matches, including the iconic 2008 Wimbledon final, widely regarded as one of the greatest contests ever played. Their rivalry helped define an era while also evolving into a genuine friendship built on mutual respect.

Their bond has become increasingly visible since retirement, with the pair frequently supporting one another away from the court.

Earlier this week, Federer and Nadal enjoyed a round of golf together in Mallorca before the Swiss legend returned to the academy for the museum visit.

The Rafa Nadal Academy has become one of Mallorca’s best-known sporting attractions since opening in Manacor in 2016. Alongside elite tennis facilities used by players from around the world, the academy welcomes thousands of visitors each year eager to learn more about Nadal’s remarkable career and legacy.

For Federer, whose final competitive match came alongside Nadal in the emotional 2022 Laver Cup, the visit offered another reminder that while their celebrated rivalry belongs to sporting history, their friendship continues to thrive.
