Going to Malaga Fair? Renfe eases journeys and adds late night trains along the Costa del Sol

As the Malaga fair starts to take shape, people will want to start making plans . This busy week usually puts pressure on coastal transport, but this year a change is coming that fair goers will appreciate.

Extra capacity rolled out for one of Malaga’s busiest weeks

Renfe has confirmed an expansion of its local train services for the Malaga Fair this year, adding 59,300 extra seats between August 15 and 23, bringing 1,214 train circulations into service, including 98 additional trains. Capacity rises by 8.7%, with more than 734,000 seats available across the nine‑day celebration, easing pressure on coastal routes at a time when demand usually climbs.

Early‑morning trains to support workers and fairgoers

Extra pre‑dawn departures have been scheduled on the Malaga–Fuengirola line, giving more practical options for staff heading to the fairgrounds before opening hours and visitors returning during the early hours. Two additional trains leave Victoria Kent at 5am and 5:40am, complementing the usual 5:20am, 5:55am and 6:30am services.

Night‑time frequency increased

Late‑night travel becomes easier thanks to additional evening schedules. Services from Malaga to Fuengirola operate every 20 minutes between 9:30pm and 00:10am, with return trains running from Fuengirola from 10:20pm until 1:00am, also at 20‑minute intervals. These boosted frequencies apply from August 15 to 22, for more alternatives to taxis and buses during peak return times.

Dedicated late‑night and early‑morning trains for Alora

Travellers on the Malaga–Alora line gain a special late‑night departure from Malaga at 11:40pm between August 15 and 22. On August 15, 16, 22 and 23 August, Renfe also activates weekday‑only early‑morning trains, a 5:44am departure from Malaga and a 6:37am return from Alora, improving flexibility for commuters from the Guadalhorce Valley.

A more comfortable and environmentally conscious fair week

Renfe states that its local train network operates on 100% renewable energy, reducing emissions and easing congestion during one of Malaga’s most celebrated annual events. For residents and visitors, these expanded services offer a dependable alternative to driving, especially during late‑night hours when demand for transport rises sharply.

More improvements coming to Costa del Sol stations

Recent upgrades across the network show Renfe’s travel improvements along the coast. A €251,000 accessibility overhaul at Torreblanca station is already under way, and new rules now allow dogs up to 40kg on all trains. Always check train times before travelling to avoid disappointment.
