It’s a knockout: Sport and family fun take centre stage across the Costa Blanca

From homemade racing machines and community fun runs to a brand-new local football league, there is no shortage of sporting action taking place across the Costa Blanca in the coming weeks. Whether you are looking to compete, cheer from the sidelines or enjoy a family day out, these events promise plenty of entertainment for all ages.

Petrer’s AutosLocos returns for its 14th year

Petrer’s popular AutosLocos (Crazy Cars) returns for its 14th year on Saturday, September 26, and organisers are now inviting teams to sign up for one of the town’s most colourful and entertaining events.

Registration is open until September 4 through the Kaskaruja Association website at kaskaruja.org, giving teams plenty of time to design their homemade vehicles and prepare their costumes.

The event has become a firm favourite in the local festival calendar, attracting competitors and spectators from across the area. This year’s action will once again take place around Leopoldo Pardines, Paseo de la Explanada and Jardines Alcalde Vicente Maestre.

The day begins at 12:00 PM with the arrival of teams and a public display of the imaginative vehicles before racing gets underway at 5:00 PM. Competitors will first take part in a league stage, with the best teams progressing to the semi-finals, the final and the third-place race.

Prize-giving starts at 8:00 PM, accompanied by music from DJs WIWI and Kore.Tek, before the celebrations continue with a free evening party featuring Orchestra Dr. JeKill from 11:00 PM.

A charity bar will be open throughout the day in support of the Kaskaruja Association, while food trucks will serve visitors during the evening.

Monforte del Cid prepares for popular fun run

Runners of all ages are being invited to take part in the 41st Cross Popular San Roque, which returns to Monforte del Cid on Thursday, August 14, as part of the town’s annual patron saint celebrations.

The popular race will begin with the children’s events at 7:00 PM, followed by the main senior and masters races from 8:00 PM. Both the start and finish lines will be on Calle Reyes Catolicos.

The main race covers approximately 3.6 kilometres on a fully paved urban circuit, while younger runners will compete over shorter distances suited to their age groups. The event is open to both licensed athletes and fun runners, with categories ranging from children through to competitors aged over 60.

Registration is open online through the Dorsal21 platform until 11:59 PM on August 12. Anyone who misses the deadline can still enter on the day from 6:00 PM, provided places are still available.

The organisers have limited the event to 200 runners. Trophies will be presented to the top three finishers in each category, as well as the three highest-placed local runners in the overall standings.

All participants will receive a commemorative medal, and race numbers will also give free entry to the municipal swimming pools on August 15.

New 7-a-side football league launches in Aspe

Aspiring footballers are being invited to sign up for the first Campo La Nia Local 7-a-side Football League, which gets underway in Aspe on September 19.

Matches will mainly be played on Saturday afternoons and throughout Sundays, making it easier for players to fit games around work and family commitments.

Team registrations are now open and will remain available until September 5. The entry fee is €60 per player, which includes participation in the league as well as trophies for the champions and runners-up. Individual awards will also be presented to the competition’s top scorer and the goalkeeper with the best defensive record.

Each team must register a minimum squad of 12 players to ensure there are enough players available throughout the season. Organisers have also confirmed there will be flexibility to rearrange matches when justified.

Councillor for Sport Daniel Aguilar Puchche said the new league forms part of the council’s commitment to encouraging grassroots and amateur sport in Aspe by creating more opportunities for local people to take part in organised competition.

The league has been designed as an annual event, with organisers hoping it will become a regular fixture in the town’s sporting calendar.
